Love Island 2019: Greg O'Shea left the villa to attend nan's funeral

Greg O'Shea temporarily left the Love Island villa to attend his nan's funeral, it's been revealed.

Greg, who is currently coupled up with Amber Gill, left the island on Monday.

He was chaperoned at all times and not given access to social media, sources on the show said.

A statement from ITV read: "Owing to a bereavement, at the wishes of his family, Greg was away from the villa for a day to attend a funeral.

"Everyone at Love Island extends their sympathies to Greg and his family and we have since welcomed him back to the villa."

His dad Niall O'Shea told Limerick Live 95: "Greg is a very good family man and his mother wanted to make sure he was there because himself and his Nan got on well."

A tribute to Greg's Nan read: "Monica Ho, from Limerick, passed away peacefully on 19th July 2019, in the care of Talbot Lodge Nursing Home, surrounded by her loving family.

"Very sadly missed by her loving daughters Carol, Simmui and Lorraine, son Paul, sons-in-law Niall, Nicky and Larry, daughter-in-law Jackie, grandchildren Laura, Jessie, Greg, Nicole, Sam, James, Shayne, Sophie-Jayne, Conor and Matthew, relatives, Peter and friends.

"May She Rest in Peace."

Greg isn't the first Islander to temporarily depart the villa this year.

Anton Danyluk spent a day away from the residence after becoming ill.

ITV explained in a short statement last week: "After feeling unwell during the day, Anton spent the night away from the villa and is subsequently missing from tonight's episode. He has since returned to the villa."

Anton was quickly seen back on screen and announced: "I’m back! I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt in here."

He added: "I’m so happy to be back with my family and see the beautiful Belle.”

Love Island 2019 continues nightly on ITV2.

The current series will conclude with its live final next Monday, July 29 at 9PM.
