I'm A Celebrity 2018: Harry Redknapp can't believe how "basic" jungle life is

Football legend thought producers would sneak him bacon sandwiches

Harry Redknapp has been left surprised by just how rough life in the I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! camp is - having never previously seen the show.

The new series of the ITV survival contest has kicked off with the ten contestants separating in to two camps.

As a member of the Red team, Harry is living in the (slightly) more luxurious Croc Creek camp.

But while he's not sleeping on mats on the floor, as the Yellow team are at Snake Rock, Harry was aghast at the living conditions as he arrived in the outback.

"My God, that’s pretty basic isn’t it," he said.

"There’s not a lot there is there? I must be honest, I thought it would be a lot more luxurious than what it is."

Things went from bad to worse for the footballing legend when dinner arrived.

He discovered that bush tucker really does mean bush tucker when the campmates began preparing their emu.

"I thought there’d be a cheese roll in there but they said it was emu," he said.

"I didn’t even think people ate emu. I’ve got to be honest, I don’t think I can eat emu."

Harry admits he'd never seen I'm A Celebrity before getting his invitation to take part, and he demonstrated that during a chat in the Bush Telegraph.

"I thought there was a caravan round the back here where they were doing bacon sandwiches," he claimed.

"I thought there will be a, 'ok, ok, time out, let’s all go round and have coffee, bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich, alright back on set'.

"No, that ain’t happening is it?"

The 71-year-old went on to joke: "I might get in touch with the local butcher and see if he can get emu for Christmas Day this year.

"On second thoughts, I don’t think so. I don’t think I ever want to see an emu again!"

Had Harry ended up at Snake Rock, he'd only have been able to eat rice and beans that night.

I'm A Celebrity continues nightly at 9.00pm on ITV, with Extra Camp straight afterwards on ITV2.
