TV Watchdog Ofcom has cleared Celebrity Big Brother over last series' 'punchgate' scandal.
It follows a controversial 'altercation' between Roxanne Pallett and Ryan Thomas during the show. During the series, Ryan was given a formal warning by Big Brother after Roxanne complained that he had been 'violent' towards her.
She claimed in the Diary Room: "I'm just a little bit in shock. I went from being upset to angry now. He actually punched me like a boxer would punch a bag. It wasn't banter, it wasn't a joke."
However the vast majority of viewers felt Roxanne overreacted as she accused Ryan of 'assaulting her', while the soap star was left in tears by the claims Roxanne had made against him.
A spokesperson for Ofcom revealed in 2018 it had received a total of 25,257 complaints about the episodes.
Now following an investigation it has cleared the show of any wrongdoing. Ofcom said: "Celebrity Big Brother is a well-established and long running reality post-watershed programme and this was its 22nd series.
"Regular viewers of the series, and of Channel 5 post-watershed programming, were likely to have had a clear expectation of controversial and confrontational events.
"We also took into account that, given the competition and voting element of the programme, it was appropriate for viewers to have had the opportunity to see controversial matters taking place within the house between the housemates and the consequences of these."
Roxanne ended up leaving the Celebrity Big Brother house in the wake of the events.
A spokesperson for Roxanne said at the time: "Roxanne decided to leave the CBB house late last night after deliberating for two days with some sensitive issues she felt strongly about. She has now been reunited with her fiancé and family and thanks everyone for their support during her time in the show."
"When I watched that footage back when I left the house, which is the first thing I did... I got it wrong, I got it really wrong," she announced.
Roxanne concluded: "I absolutely overreacted, I was out of order and I got it wrong. I massively regret it.
"I've had to take a massive step back but I don't blame everyone. If I was watching this I would've been confused by my reaction. I apologise massively to everyone I offended."
She's also said to have written a personal letter of apology to Ryan, who went on to win the series.
It was the final ever season of Celebrity Big Brother to air on Channel 5.
