Jermaine Pennant's friend has claimed that the Celebrity Big Brother star is not with his wife.
Footballer Jermaine has been caught up in quite the controversy on this year's series.
It was Chloe Ayling who got the boot from Celebrity Big Brother 2018 in Tuesday's eviction. She had faced the axe against Hardeep Singh Kohli following nominations on Sunday.
After leaving in the live show, Chloe spoke to Emma Willis about her time in the house - and her flirtation with Jermaine.
During her chat with Emma, Chloe found out the truth about Jermaine's relationship on the outside world as she was told he was in fact married.
"No way... I don't even know what to say to that," reacted Chloe, who was originally under the impression he had split up from his partner. "I don't even have any words at the moment. I think that's disgusting, to be married and then to try and crack on with someone on TV.
"I only found out yesterday he had a girlfriend, but he never ever mentioned marriage."
But now Jermaine's pal has defended him, claiming Jermaine and his wife are not currently together.
"Well from what I know the relationship has been very, very on and off since they've been married. It's been up and down," fellow footballer Kevin James told Bit On The Side. "Since before he was going in there, what I heard from the last week they wasn't together."
Although Jermaine's wife was with him at the launch, Kevin continued: "I don’t like to say modern day relationships but to me he does look a bit confused in there.
"When you're in a relationship that's on and off, and has been for a long time, he didn’t feel the need to mention it as it's something that's at the end."
As for Chloe's take on the situation, she said: "He's disgusting. I don't know why you would do that on national TV when you have a wife at home. It's just so cruel and not needed at all, it's just disgusting."
She added: "Just looking back at it, it makes me think he doesn’t care about anyone's feelings but himself."
Celebrity Big Brother 2018 continues nightly at 9PM on Channel 5.
The final date has now been confirmed for Monday, September 10.
