Simon Cowell says Britain's Got Talent 2019 semi-finalists haven't "worked hard enough"

Judge isn't happy with live shows, reckons there's better magicians than finalists 4MG

Britain's Got Talent 2019 live shows - Simon Cowell

Simon Cowell is frustrated with the Britain's Got Talent 2019 live shows.

He claims acts haven't "worked hard enough" and suggests there's better magicians than finalists 4MG.

Simon was ecstatic on Monday night when Dave and Finn won the first public vote of the week.

Having watched the episodes back, he claimed the dog act had the best "of all the auditions".

However, it seems everything's gone downhill from there for the Syco boss.

He opened tonight's episode by telling hosts Ant and Dec that the second semi-final wasn't up to scratch.

"What I felt last night was, the contestants overall were lacking something," he moaned.

"I don't think they've worked hard enough, in my opinion.

"You're in this place, you're in the semi-finals, you've just got to give it that extra 10 or 20%."

Simon went even further after dance magic ensemble Angels Inc opened the show with a spectacular routine.

He suggested they are more deserving of a place in the final than teen magicians 4MG, who went through after topping the second public vote.

"I think they were better than the magic act that won last night," he commented.

Despite that, the media mogul felt the Dutch group didn't have a chance, lamenting: "I'm not sure, though, if the public are going to support you."

While Simon seemed happier with tonight's contestants, his foul mood continued after KNE's performance.

He bluntly told the dance group they're "not as good" as BGT stars who have preceded them.

"What I said at the start about hoping that people are gonna step up their game… there's no question I'm feeling this already," he claimed.

"But I'm gonna be honest, in terms of comparing you to previous winners - we always mention Diversity, but there's others - you're not as good.

"As much as I like you, I can't pretend this is better than what I saw before, because it isn't."

One person likely to earn better feedback from Simon is his Golden Buzzer recipient, Kojo Anim.

The comedian is one of tonight's eight competitors, who will find out their fates in the results show at 9.30pm on ITV.
