How Britain’s Got Talent’s Jenny Darren narrowly missed out on music stardom

Britain’s Got Talent’s Jenny Darren has revealed how she narrowly missed out on music stardom.

Jenny is a 68-year-old retiree from Birmingham, living in the Cotswolds.

In Saturday night’s show, Jenny surprised the judges as she rocked out to ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC in the latest auditions.

It saw Jenny get four yeses through to the next round, and potentially onto the live shows.

But Jenny has revealed it’s far from her first time in the spotlight, almost making it huge in the 1970s and 80s.

She had a record album out and recorded a song called Heartbreaker. The track was later released by Pat Benatar, proving to be her first hit.

Jenny revealed to the Radio Times magazine: “Heartbreaker was released on my album. But nobody thought to bring it out as a single. And because the record company was also a publishing house, Pat heard the recording and loved it and she went and took it.

“Then of course it was in the top 30 – and my record company released my version afterwards but it was too late.”

She added: “I wasn’t that upset about it at the time, but I’ve been more upset about it since when reality dawns on you. When you’re young, you’re doing lots of gigs and things. But of course it’d have made a big difference if I had recorded that as a single, without a doubt.”

Jenny said she hoped appearing on Britain’s Got Talent would allow her to be a “professional” again.

“It’d be lovely to be a professional again, because that’s what I used to be,” she said. “I want to get out there and do it properly.”

Britain’s Got Talent continues Saturday nights on ITV.
