Last Saturday evening coaches Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Olly Murs and Jennifer Hudson returned to their spinning red chairs.

After seven weeks of blind auditions, there was a change of clothes as the next stage kicks off.

The battle rounds started and Lucy Milburn and Simon Davies went head to head on Team Tom.

The pair faced off in a musical duel, performing Sam Smith’s Too Good at Goodbyes

Sir Tom declared Lucy the winner, seeing through to the knockouts.

And Simon was not stolen, causing shock with viewers.

One person tweeted: “The Voice just booted out the best voice this show has ever had #SimonDavies #jokedecision #TheVoiceUK #TheVoice”

Another reacted: “#TheVoiceUK can’t believe no one stole Simon. I’m devastated. He was just the best!!! Will get him a deal!!”

In the battle rounds, each of the coaches pair up the contestants in their teams in a series of head to head musical duels.

Both acts share the song but just one can take the victory.

After each performance, all coaches comment but their mentor alone picks one winner and potentially send the other home.

The loser’s only chance to stay in the competition comes from the other coaches.

Once again The Voice sees the return of the steal twist, allowing each coach to take an act through that their rivals reject for their own team.

Just as with the blind auditions, if more than one coach wants the same act, it’ll be the contestant themselves who decides which team to join.

However the coaches can only pick just one act to steal, meaning they’re sure to be super picky with their decision.

By the end of the Battles Rounds, each team will have with just six acts going into the Knockouts, ahead of the live shows later this year.

The Voice UK’s 2018 battle rounds continue next Saturday night on ITV.
