Kelvin Fletcher is the new favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing 2019

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 - TX1 LIVE SHOW

Kelvin Fletcher has been installed as the new favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

Last Saturday night saw the first live show of this year's Strictly as the celebs danced for the first time.

Kelvin topped the leaderboard for the opening week - despite only joining the show two weeks ago as a late addition to the line up.

Consequently, Kelvin has hot-footed his way to the top of the betting to be crowned the winner of Strictly Come Dancing after the impressive performance in front of the cameras.

The former Emmerdale actor was a late replacement for injured Jamie Laing, but now he is the pick of the bunch after his week one Samba received a top score of 32 with 8s from all four judges.

That triggered a gamble which saw his odds crumble into 7/5 from 7/1 with bookmakers BoyleSports, overtaking previous favourite Karim Zeroual, who is out to 7/2 from 10/3 despite a high score of 31 following a cha-cha to Shawn Mendes.

James Cracknell meanwhile looks up the creak without a paddle after a big gamble on him being the first casualty of the new series.

His Tango to ‘Gold’ by Spandau Ballet won’t see him on the podium any time soon after a week-low score of 11 saw him plummet into 11/10 from 11/2 to be the first contestant axed.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “James Cracknell’s chances look sunk after he was backed off the boards to be given his marching orders first, but at the right end of the betting it’s all about Kelvin Fletcher. He has set down an early marker and is now the dancer to beat at 7/5 from 7/1.”
