Strictly Come Dancing 2018 final ended on a series high in the ratings last night.

It was Stacey Dooley who won Strictly Come Dancing 2018 last night, beating rivals Ashley Roberts, Faye Tozer and Joe Sugg to lift the glitterball.

The result wasn't much of a shocker, with Stacey considered the firm favourite to win having never been in the dance off all series.

And while she wasn't top of the leaderboard, viewer votes alone crowned her the winner on the night just as was predicted.

An average audience of 11.7 million tuned in across the marathon 2 hour plus long show, with a peak audience of 12.7 million. It bettered last Sunday's I'm A Celebrity final on ITV, where 10.9 million viewers tuned in.

The average was the exact same as last year's show managed and down only a smidgen on the 11.8 million who watched 2016's final.

It was the most watched episode of this year's Strictly series overnight but it remains to be seen if it can rise to become the most watched TV show of the year.

Official figures, which will be out next week, will add in those who catch up with the results after they aired.

Overall, the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing averaged just under 9.5 million viewers - excluding the pre-recorded launch show at the start of September.

Back to last night and at 9PM on BBC One, Michael McIntyre's Big Show benefited from Strictly's big lead in - and a lack of any real competition - scoring a series high of 7.3 million viewers. This was up 500,000 on 2017's equivalent show as guests including Cheryl and Anton Du Beke appeared.

Over on ITV and Happy Hour with Olly Murs and its star filled line up had fewer than 2 million viewers in the 9PM hour.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One for a new series next year.
