Strictly Come Dancing’s Aston Merrygold still gutted over his shock exit

Aston Merrygold is still gutted about his premature Strictly Come Dancing exit.

Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 earlier this month.

He was in the bottom two dance off against Mollie King after the viewer votes and judges’ scores were combined.

Craig and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.

Aston’s exit has gone down as one of Strictly’s biggest shocks ever, and the singer himself still hasn’t come to terms with leaving so early.

“I’m not over it,” he admitted this week, “I was gutted because I was having a great time.

“But I’ve been in this industry a long time, so you have to look at it as, ‘What’s next?'”

Craig and Shirley both came under criticism for their decision, with Craig’s low score for Aston’s routine in the Saturday show also attracting complaints.

But Aston insisted he held no grudges against the judges and said there was nothing “unfair” about his exit.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, he explained: “When you’re in the bottom two, you’re in the bottom two.

“You have to dance to the best of your ability and, at the end of the day, it’s opinions – and the opinion didn’t go my way on the night. No one was blindfolded when watching. You just have to take it on the chin.”

Right now six couples are left in Strictly Come Dancing 2017.

They’ll be dancing once more this Saturday and Sunday night in the Musicals themed special, competing for a spot in the Quarter Finals.
