Aston Merrygold’s girlfriend still angry with Strictly’s Craig Revel Horwood

Aston Merrygold’s girlfriend is still angry with Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.

Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 earlier this month.

He was in the bottom two dance off against Mollie King after the viewer votes and judges’ scores were combined.

Craig and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.

Craig and Shirley both came under criticism for their decision, with Craig’s low score for Aston’s routine in the Saturday show also attracting complaints.

Speaking in OK! magazine this week, Aston’s girlfriend Sarah said: “Sorry, Craig – you kind of deserve [the backlash]. I think this time you got it wrong.”

Aston admitted he was “gutted” with the mark.

“When I got a four, I laughed,” he recalled. “It’s a nervous thing that I do. It looked really bad when I watched it back, but that was the start of a rollercoaster and I thought things weren’t going to go to plan.

“Craig has always been the harshest of the judges. It felt like the best we’d done the dance. Before, when I got lower than seven, I was a bit gutted. I just wanted to keep getting better.”

Following Aston’s surprise departure, Debbie McGee has been installed as the current favourite to win.

Strictly is back this Saturday night as the remaining eight celebs head north for the Blackpool special.
