Strictly Come Dancing’s Week 7 dance off curse revealed

A new Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ has been revealed, and it could be good news for Mollie King.

The Saturdays star was in a shock bottom two dance off on Sunday night against Aston Merrygold.

Aston, who was the favourite to win at the time, was given the boot by the judges as Mollie made it through to the next week of the competition.

And it turns out that there seems to be something strange about Week 7 on Strictly, which often sees surprise dance off results.

In 2014 it was Caroline Flack in the bottom two – before she went on to win.

The next year it was Kellie Bright who found herself in the danger zone, going on to make the final.

And in 2016, Ore Oduba had to dance again before also going on to win.

Revealing the stats on BBC Two spin-off show It Takes Two, host Zoe Ball said: “If you’re feeling a bit disappointed, week 7 is actually notorious for shock dance offs.

“I hope that brings you some comfort.”

Mollie replied: “I love those facts.”

Meanwhile, speaking on BBC’s The One Show last night, Mollie admitted she fully expected to be the one leaving on Sunday night.

“It was such an emotional weekend. It was such a shock, and for us, it was emotional because it felt like our actual nightmare coming true,” Mollie said. “Firstly, being in the dance-off again.

“And then being in it with a really good friend of yours. You’re so close to all of the cast, but I’ve known Aston for nearly ten years.”

Mollie continued: “To be there, it felt like a lose-lose situation. Obviously, I didn’t want to go. We didn’t want to go. But we didn’t want them to go either…

“When we stepped out on the dancefloor, I just thought, ‘We’ve just got to give it everything because this is probably the last time we’ll be on here’.”

Following Aston’s surprise departure, Debbie McGee has been installed as the current favourite to win.

Strictly is back this Saturday night as the remaining nine celebs fight for a place at the upcoming Blackpool special.
