Aston Merrygold is "gutted" after his shock Strictly Come Dancing 2017 exit.
Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 ,lat night.
As always, following the latest live performances and public vote, the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ poll to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.
This weekend, it was popstar Aston Merrygold and his partner Janette Manrara; and singer Mollie King and her professional partner AJ Pritchard.
Both couples performed their routines again before the judges delivered their verdicts and it was a split decision.
Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.
After the result, in the studio, Aston said: “Honestly, every second of this, I’ve had friends who have done the show before and they’ve gone ‘you’re going to have the most amount of fun from start to finish whatever it is’ and honestly they weren’t lying!
"Everything, from this lady to every single person in here, these four judges, yourself, Claudia, all you amazing lot up there that I get to see and spend so much time with.
"I’ve made some amazing friends and honestly I’ve had the best time, it’s been amazing.”
Janette added: “I just have to say, honestly I don’t think that I am ever going to have the opportunity to dance with someone like you again. Someone who is so talented, so lovely, such a good friend and I just have to say thank you.
"Thank you, he is one of the most talented individuals I have ever met. You have so much to offer to the world of entertainment and I hope that this is just a small pebble to what you’re going to bring the world because you are amazing. You’re amazing.”
On Instagram afterwards, Aston told his followers: "Class of 17 you are all f***ing brilliant can't wait for our catch up night out.. good luck to you all!!"
He added: "Guys life is great I'm gutted obviously but... I'm not sad that it's over, I'm happy that it got to happen! 🙌🏾🙏🏾❤ next stop and adventure being a daddy 😁❤😍 oh and some music n tours n shiiiiiiiet.. But daddy first ha!"
The remaining nine couples will take to the dancefloor again next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One at 6:45PM.
