It wass the second appearance in as many weeks for Simon and third overall, but a surprise debut in the dance off for Mollie, one of the favourites to win.

On Saturday, Mollie and her pro partner AJ Pritchard danced the Cha Cha to Better The Devil You Know by Kylie Minogue to score 27 points from the judges.

Simon and his pro dancer Katya Jones had performed the American Smooth to Delilah by Tom Jones, scoring 16 marks from the judges.

Simon was bottom of the leaderboard while Mollie was sixth in the ranking at the end of the performances from the final 11 celebs.

As usual, the results from the public vote were added to the judges’ scores to decide the bottom two in the dance off tonight.

First to be announced as in the dance off was Mollie and AJ.

“We’re gutted, we’ve just got to give it our everything,” Mollie told host Tess Daly.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told the pair: “I’m surprised you’re in the bottom two you did really well on Saturday evening.”

After also being announced as in the dance off, Simon said: “It’s called the Simon Rimmer-off rather than the dance off! We probably deserve to be here but we’ll go out and give it a good go.”

Both Mollie and Simon then danced again for the judges, who had to decide which couple should stay in the competition.

Each of the judges decided to save Mollie and AJ, including head judge Shirley, sending Simon and Katya home.
