Alexandra and pro partner Gorka Marquez danced the Jive to Proud Mary by Tina Turner at the weekend, scoring the first tens of the series.

Craig Revel Horwood raved: “You created a nuclear reaction, incredible!”

Darcy Busell added: “The energy, the zest, even to the easiest moves you give you all. My, it was absolutely stunning, an all round performance.”

Shirley Ballas said: “I don’t know about Proud Mary, but I’m Proud Shirley. That was amazing. You’ve left me speechless. ”

And Bruno Tonioli also praised the routine, saying Tina would’ve been proud.

The judges gave Alexandra a total of 39 points out of 40, with only Craig not giving the full ten marks.

The dance has boosted Alexandra’s chances, seeing her leapfrog Aston Merrygold as the favourite to win.

Of course we’ve still got a while to go yet…

Peter Watton spokesman at Oddsmonkey says: “Aston has been excellent as everyone thought, but it is Alexandra who has caught the eye of the judges and fans alike, and clearly the Punters too – now 2/1 from 4/1 at the start, she really is the leading light at the moment.

“However, as we know with Strictly, the outsiders are really the ones to watch and it is the two after Alexandra and Aston that really look appealing.

“Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson has come from being an outsider to third favourite, along with Debbie McGee – both of their odds are coming down and down, and clearly are attracting a lot of attention in the market.”
