James Jordan has been installed as the new favourite to win Dancing On Ice 2019.

James Jordan has taken over as the Dancing On Ice favourite after half of the celebrities took to the ice for the first time on Sunday night.

The former Strictly Come Dancing professional scored a whopping 30.5 for his routine to ‘I Wont Dance’ by Jane Monheit and Michael Bublé. As a result, his odds were quickly cut from 11/2 to the one to beat at 2/1.

However there's been controversy as some viewers have claimed James' dance background has given him an unfair advantage.

But equally others have defended James, including his former Strictly co star Neil Jones.

Pro dancer Neil posted to Twitter: "Wow people can I just say just because we can dance it doesn’t automatically make us great at figure skating every technique we have ever trained in goes directly out of the window as soon as you pop on the ice so hats off to @The_JamesJordan for his performance #dancingonice"

Meanwhile, Love Island’s Wes Nelson has yet to perform on the ice but remains a contender for the title despite losing out on the top spot to James as the 9/4 second favourite.

Saara Alto saw her odds shorten into 7/1 from 9/1 after she wowed the judges with her performance to Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’, scoring 20.5 points for her efforts. Also scoring 20.5 was Coronation Street’s Jane Danson who remains priced as a 9/1 shot to win.

Neighbours star Mark Little became the first celeb to face the skate-off after he was bottom of the judges and viewer votes.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for BoyleSports commented: “James Jordan unsurprisingly gave a showstopping performance on the ice on the opening night of Dancing On Ice and despite some criticism online for his professional dance background, punters have begun to get behind him to win, backing him all the way in from 11/2 to the 2/1 new favourite.”
