ITV announce the axe of a trio of prime time TV shows

ITV has announced a string of cancellations that will see three shows axed from TV.

Change Your Tune, Our Shirley Valentine Summer and The Big Audition will not be back after premiering in 2018.

ITV said: “While overall our schedule is performing strongly, not all of our programmes performed as we had hoped so some, for example Change Your Tune, Our Shirley Valentine Summer, and The Big Audition, will not return.”

Change Your Tune featured some of the country’s WORST singers who were all hoping to ‘change their tune’ and win an amazing cash prize. In each episode, hosted by Baz Ashmawy, five truly terrible singers performed a classic song for a live studio audience.

After each ear-splitting performance a curtain fell before the singer underwent weeks of training to try and improve their voice. They the returned to sing again a bid to win the show.

It was panned by viewers, with some branding it ‘the worst TV show ever’ and wondering how it made it to air.

Meanwhile, The Big Audition followed the highs and lows of the ‘everyday’ audition process. The how used fixed rig cameras to film as both first timers and professionals tried out for their dream roles, whether it be modelling gigs, acting jobs or the next leading role on the West End.

Finally, Our Shirley Valentine Summer saw a group of celebs escape to a Greek island for the summer in an attempt to transform their lives for the better. Those who appeared were Melinda Messenger, Sian Lloyd, Nancy Dell’Olio, Aggie MacKenzie, Ninia Benjamin, Lizzie Cundy, Annabel Giles, and Ingrid Tarrant.

While some shows may have provided disappointing viewing figures, ITV revealed significant success stories from many others.

“Daytime shows grew their audiences, including The Chase, Good Morning Britain – with its highest share ever, and This Morning and Lorraine – both achieving their highest share in five years,” ITV said.

They continued: “Our soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, have enjoyed success in 2018 with both holding a steady audience volume and managing to increase share year-on-year, maintaining their position as the UK’s two largest soaps.”

In their 2018 end of year report, ITV added: “We successfully aired a range of new dramas including Innocent, Trauma, Girlfriends and Butterfly; new entertainment shows, including Britain’s Brightest Family; and successful factual, including Gino, Gordon and Fred: Road Trip and The Queen’s Green Planet.

“We continue to drive significant audiences with our returning brands such as Vera – which had its most successful series to date, Unforgotten, Endeavour, The Durrells, Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice UK, The Real Full Monty and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! – with its most watched series ever averaging 11.8 million viewers and 45% share, achieving the accolade as the biggest show on TV in 2018 outside of some Football World Cup matches.”
