Jason was a judge on eight of the nine original series, and returned to the panel this year for the revived tenth run.

But he says whether or not he’ll return in 2019 is up in the air.

“I know what this industry is like. You can never say it is a sure thing,” Jason said at the weekend. “They have not spoken to me about next year. Oh God…who knows what will happen?”

He told the Daily Star newspaper: “At this point I’m just making sure we get through this series and making it the best that we can.

“I have got a job ahead of me. But none of us knows where we are going to be next year.”

Alongside Jason, the current Dancing On Ice judges are made up of former coaches Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean plus newbie Ashley Banjo.

ITV confirmed previously that it had already renewed the series for next year.

The “greatest show on ice” will return in 2019 for what will be its eleventh series overall.

The show had run on ITV originally between 2006 and 2014, before a revival last month.

Dancing on Ice has now been re-commissioned for another series, hot on the heels of the show’s new reboot this year, which saw a peak of audience of 8.3 million viewers (live overnights) tune in for its first episode.

Alongside the judges are original presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Siobhan Greene, Head of Entertainment Commissioning, ITV, said “The show’s welcome back has exceeded our expectations and it’s been fantastic to see the audience at home loving it. The recommission is a no brainer and it’s brilliant for everyone involved to know it’ll be back next year.”

Katie Rawcliffe, ITV Studios Creative Director, added: “All of us missed Dancing on Ice while the show was off screen and it seems all our viewers did too… our on screen changes have been brilliantly received and we’re looking forward to getting our skates on for series two.”

The current series of Dancing On Ice concluded last weekend.
