The Voice UK’s Gayatri Nair stuns with ‘This Is Me’ Greatest Showman cover

There were tears on The Voice UK this weekend as Gayatri Nair performed This Is Me.

16-year-old student Gayatri from Luton made it through to the live shows on Team Jennifer on Saturday night.

In the knockout rounds, she performed a cover of This Is Me by Keala Settle from The Greatest Showman movie.

The performance prompted quite the reaction with tears from Gayatri and her mentor Jennifer Hudson.

All four of the coaches will full of praise for the teenager, who Jennifer chose as her first finalist.

“You come with a message,” Jennifer said. “I can relate to that.

“I can sense your message in your story and your song.”

An emotional Gayatri explained her tears: “In the piano routine, with Jennifer, she told me ‘make sure your emotion doesn’t get the better of you’.

“I’ve been trying, for many, many years, this is what I want to do, and look at me now – this is me.”

In the knockout rounds, each of the 24 remaining acts from the battles are singing for a place in the live semi-finals at the end of March (Saturday, March 31).

After each performance, the coaches will all offer up their views on who was best, but the power over who goes through is solely in the hands of that team’s mentor.

In Saturday’s first knock out episode, three singers from each team performed before their mentor had to pick one to go through to the live shows.

Alongside Team Jennifer’s Gayatri, Olly chose Lauren Bannon, Sir Tom Jones selected Lucy Milburn and Will.i.am picked Tai.

The remaining trio of acts currently left in each team will perform next Saturday, where the coaches will each select a second finalist for the live stages.

The Voice UK 2018 airs Saturday night from 8:30PM on ITV.
