As The Voice UK 2019 concludes on ITV, we look back at the past winners and ask: Where are they now?
Here’s a look at what happened to those that previously won the show…
Leanne Mitchell
The Voice UK winner 2012
Leanne won the first ever series of The Voice UK back in 2012 when it aired on BBC One. She was dropped after her album off the back of the show reached 134 in the charts and sold just 895 copies.
Leanne ended up taking to Twitter to claim she was being made a “scapegoat” for the record’s failure.
“Ever get the feeling you’ve been used as the scapegoat? I have had to read and listen to so much about me recently, and so far have kept quiet,” Leanne wrote at the time. “I’d written and finished the majority of my album by the end of last summer, around September time… I don’t know why it was decided to wait so long to release it, but unfortunately, being very new to all this and probably too naive, I had to trust the people around me in making the right decisions.”
It was reported in 2014 that Leanne had returned to singing in Holiday Parks.
Andrea Begley
The Voice UK winner 2013
Team Danny singer Andrea Begley (controversially) beat Leah McFall in 2013’s final to win the series.
Andrea, who was mentored by Danny O’Donoghue, went on to release her debut album in October. Called The Message it featured a combination of covers and self-penned songs from the Northern Irish singer.
The record did a lot better on the charts than Series One winner Leanne Mitchell managed, making the top 10.
She’s still signed (apparently) although a second album shows no signs of appearing.
Jermain Jackman
The Voice UK winner 2014
The Voice 2014 winner Jermain Jackman’s debut single charted at Number 75 and sold just over 3,000 copies.
His self-titled record of original tracks, co-written by Jermain himself, just missed out on the Top 40 when it was released last year, instead charting at Number 42, selling just under 2,500 copies.
He subsequently announced that he was ‘quitting’ music, saying: “I’ve stepped back from music for now. I saw some things I didn’t like and I was losing the love for music.”
Stevie McCrorie
The Voice UK winner 2015
It was Stevie McCrorie who won The Voice UK in 2015, securing coach Ricky Wilson his first victory. Stevie’s winner’s single was the best performing yet, with a cover of Lost Stars charting at Number 6 back in April, better than even The X Factor winner Louisa Johnson managed.
Stevie spent the autumn recording his debut album, Big World, in London which was released back in January 2015 and reached Number 35 in the charts.
In 2016, Stevie revealed he was returning to work as a firefighter after a year out but insisted that he had not quit music.
Kevin Simm
The Voice UK winner 2016
It was Kevin Simm who won The Voice UK in 2016, securing coach Ricky Wilson his second victory. Kevin’s winner’s single was an original track, All You Good Friends, which reached Number 24 in the charts.
In October 2016, Kevin released his album Recover however it failed to make any impact on the charts and missed out on the Top 75 completely.
In 2017, Kevin released a brand new EP called Love & Pain. Since 2018, he has been the lead singer for Scottish rock band Wet Wet Wet, touring with them across the UK.
Mo Jamil
The Voice UK winner 2017
It was Mo Jamil who won The Voice UK in 2017. Winner Signing a record deal with Polydor, Mo went straight into the studio recording his debut album. Called Evolve, the record is out now and charted at Number 36 in the charts in 2018.
Mo returned to The Voice UK last year where he performed live in the semi-final.
Ruti Olajugbagbe
The Voice UK winner 2018
Ruti Olajugbagbe won The Voice UK last year after being coached by Sir Tom Jones. She released a cover of The Cranberries’ Dreams following the final which charted at Number 14 in the charts.
As winner of The Voice, Ruti signed a recording contract with Polydor Records and released her new song and EP Racing Cars this week. She’ll return to the live final to perform the song.
