The much awaited return of Great British Bake Off tonight for its latest series seems to have got the thumbs up from viewers.
Tonight saw the very first episode of Bake Off’s eighth series having moved homes from BBC One to Channel 4.
And with the channel move came some new changes.
Restaurateur, food writer and novelist Prue Leith joined Paul Hollywood as judge, replacing Mary Berry, while Sandi Toksvig OBE and Noel Fielding replaced Mel and Sue as hosts.
Overall the new series has gone down well with viewers and one fan on Twitter even declared: “I’m throwing this out there… I prefer Prue Leith to Mary Berry. #gbbo”
Noel proved the most divisive of the new additions, with one viewer quipping: “Noel Fielding is talking like he’s meeting his girlfriend’s parents for the first time #gbbo”
Another joked: “Noel is like when you’re smashed but you’re pretending not to be so you stand there making awkward convo with everyone #GBBO”
Some seriously weren’t impressed: “Oh god 2 mins into it and I’m already cringing at Noel fielding.. don’t get me wrong I love him but not hosting bake off #GBBO2017 #GBBO”
But others were pleasantly surprised: “I’m so sorry Mel, Sue and Mary, I’ve been seduced by Sandi and Noel. No one is more surprised than me! #GBBO”
There was however one thing everyone wasn’t happy about: The adverts.
The show ran from 8PM-9:15PM and is said to have had around 17 minutes of ads throughout.
One viewer opined: “Anyone else feel everything is feeling so rushed because of the adverts? This show was always so relaxing to watch #GBBO”
However Scarlett Moffat looked on the bright side and tweeted: “Great thing about channel 4 having ad breaks- I can run to the shop and buy some mini rolls #gbbo”
The Great British Bake Off returns next Tuesday night on Channel 4.
