Strictly Come Dancing 2019 ‘signs BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell’

BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell has reportedly been signed up for Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV host, who famously fell in a swimming pool live on air, is apparently lined up for this year’s cast.

Mike wouldn’t be the first of BBC’s sports presenting team to compete on Strictly, following in the footsteps of Chris Hollins and Ore Oduba who both won the show.

A source shared with The Sun newspaper: “Producers are keen to tap into the laughs that Mike can bring to the show, and the fact that he’s now one of the most familiar faces on BBC Breakfast.

“They’re also conscious of the fact he could be the dark horse of the competition. Not only have his predecessors triumphed on Strictly, but he keeps himself physically fit.”

As yet the BBC has not confirmed any names for the Strictly line up which is expected to be officially revealed from next month.

However other rumoured contestants include TV legend Anneka Rice, who rose to fame in the 80s donning her signature jumpsuit as the ‘skyrunner’ on Channel 4’s Treasure Hunt.

She later moved on to BBC One’s Challenge Anneka, a format that she co-created, between 1989 and 1995.

Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing is supposedly in talks to take part after chiefs relaxed a ban on reality stars.

More rumoured celebrity competitors include rower James Cracknell, RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage and DJ Dev Griffin.

Meanwhile, weeks of speculation ended this week when the Beeb finally confirmed the identity of the new judge.

Motsi Mabuse, sister of professional contestant Oti, will replace Darcey Bussell behind the desk this year.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 is due to hit our screens in early September.

Spin-off show It Takes Two will be back on BBC Two nightly, this year co-hosted by Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark-Neal.
