Stephen Mulhern hints he WON’T be involved in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions

Presenter suggests More Talent might not return for all-star spin-off

Stephen Mulhern has hinted that he will NOT be involved in Britain’s Got Talent’s rumoured Champions edition.

Reports indicate that ITV is preparing to launch an ‘all-stars’ series of the variety contest, after the idea proved a huge hit in the US.

It would involve fan-favourite former contestants returning to compete against stars of other global Got Talent franchises for ultimate glory.

However, it might not include one of BGT’s most popular elements.

Stephen Mulhern has ignited speculation that Britain’s Got More Talent won’t be airing alongside the spin-off.

During a comedy skit on tonight’s episode of the ITV2 companion show, the presenter suggested he “isn’t needed” for The Champions.

“This is even more embarrassing than getting really excited about BGT: The Champions, clearing your diary, only to find out that you’re the only talent that isn’t needed,” he said.

While More Talent’s running gag claims it only has ‘one viewer’, it is actually one of ITV2’s most watched programmes, averaging around the 800,000 mark.

Of course, Stephen could have been joking – although The Champions will likely differ from BGT’s usual format.

The American version – which NBC renewed for a second season earlier this month – was entirely pre-recorded.

Instead of a public vote, a ‘superfan panel’ decided which acts progressed throughout the competition.

ITV is yet to officially announce BGT: The Champions, or how it will work.

Despite this, several former stars – including Susan Boyle, Paul Potts and Tokio Myers – are reportedly in talks to take part.

For now, the thirteenth main series of Britain’s Got Talent is building towards its grand finale.

Six acts have made it through so far, including viewer picks Dave and Finn, 4MG and Colin Thackery.

The fourth live semi-final airs tonight (Thursday 30th May) at 7.30pm on ITV.
