Spice Girls ‘planning TV talent show to find a new girl group’

Move over Gary Barlow, the Spice Girls are next in line to launch their own TV talent show.

After recently reuniting, the 90s pop sensations are planning a comeback – on the telly.

Rumour has it they’re working on a Let It Shine style talent contest to find a new girl group.

Airing on BBC One last year, Let It Shine saw Gary on the hunt for five singers to make a new boy band for his new musical, The Band.

But the Spice Girls have bigger goals.

Let It Shine

Their show wouldn’t just air in the UK, with ambitious plans to hold heats in countries across the world.

Simon Fuller, who originally managed the Spice Girls, is said to be behind the idea.

“Simon has been formulating this girlband idea for over two years. He wants to create an international band,” a source told The Sun newspaper.

They explained: “For example, one member will be selected from China, another from India and then someone will be from the UK.

“The plan is to bring people together and add some diversity to the charts.”

The format could see various members of the Spice Girls sit behind the judges desk depending on the country.

“Geri has said she wouldn’t be able to commit to judging for six weeks in China but could appear in London or America,” the insider suggested.

The news comes as Victoria shut down rumours of a reunion concert tour.

Speaking about their recent meet up, Victoria told Vogue magazine: “I’m not going on tour. The girls aren’t going on tour.

“It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.”

She added: “There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for. What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming. But this [fashion] is what I do.”
