Saturday Night Takeaway spin-off as In For A Penny gets full series

Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway has been given a sister show.

Rumour previously had it that the hit ITV series could get its very own spin-off show – and now it’s confirmed.

Hosted by Stephen Mulhern, the series is a game show, based around Saturday Night Takeaway’s current In For a Penny, In For a Grand format.

Stephen fronts the mini-game show and in this year’s series finale of Saturday Night Takeaway, it was revealed the segment was getting its very own series.

Speaking about the upcoming run this week, Stephen said: “In For A Penny, In For A Grand – look, this is the idea of Ant and Dec, this is not my idea.

“They came up with it, we did it on Saturday Night Takeaway. Thank goodness it went down well, we’ve spent the last six months recording it.”

He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “It’s celebrating the Great British public and you can win £1,000. I think people forget how much a thousand pounds means to people – you’ve got shows like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire where you can win huge amounts of money, but one grand to give to somebody, you see their reaction.

“And it’s tax-free! Along the way we have a good laugh.”

In the game, members of the public pay 1p to compete for the chance of winning £1,000.

They must answer five random questions all correctly to stay in the game and win the prize money.

It’s not yet been revealed when the series will air, however ITV previously announced that Saturday Night Takeaway itself would not air in 2019.

The show will rest for the year to allow Ant time to recover after seeking treatment in rehab.

A statement said: “Ant and Dec have made the joint decision not to present a new series of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in Spring 2019. Production and filming for a Saturday Night Takeaway series in February would normally have already started, and continue throughout 2018 and early 2019.

“Neither Ant & Dec nor ITV wanted to compromise the quality of the show and therefore felt it was better to rest the series next year.

“They will instead bring the show back in 2020, bigger and better than ever.”
