Love Island 2019 ratings have broken viewing figure records for ITV2.
The current fifth season has recorded the channel’s biggest EVER audience.
Last week’s Tuesday and Wednesday night episodes of Love Island, which showed the dramatic Recoupling following Casa Amor and the continuing fall out, have broken new records.
With catch up figures now included, the two episodes have consolidated at 4.6 million and 4.7 million TV viewers respectively, which are ITV2’s biggest ever audiences.
Across four screen consolidated viewing – which includes those watching on PC, tablet and mobile – this rises to 6.1 million and 6.2 million respectively – marking the first time the show has broken the 6 million viewers mark.
It represents the latest year-on-year rise for the ITV2 series, which started with only 500,000 viewers when it launched in 2015.
The current series is set to conclude at the end of the month with a final date scheduled for Monday, July 29.
As usual, Caroline Flack will host live as viewers crown this year’s Love Island winners.
With the big ratings, it’s little surprise to learn that there are reportedly plans to launch a ‘winter Love Island’.
According to The Sun, ITV2 is working on a second version of Love Island to cash in on its popularity.
It will apparently feature the exact same format, although filming will take place in South Africa rather than Spain.
Chiefs intend to air the show after Christmas, similarly to Celebrity Big Brother, a former staple of the January schedules which Channel 5 axed last year.
An insider told the newspaper: “After the flop of Survival of the Fittest, producers want to keep the format simple and mop up the gaping hole Celebrity Big Brother left.”
For now, Love Island 2019 continues nightly on ITV2.
