Paul Hollywood has revealed how the winner of the Great British Bake Off 2017 was picked.
Tonight sees the GBBO 2017 final on Channel 4 with Steven, Kate and Sophie in the running to be crowned the winner.
In the final show, the trio will have to impress judges Paul and Prue Leith to win the title with a special theme for the final.
In the last signature challenge, the bakers return to bread, and the tricky task of a batch of loaves.
In the technical challenge, Prue has made a simple biscuit bake very tough. There can be no room for nerves or trembling hands.
On the final day, the finalists have one last challenge: a delicate, multi-layered, high-end patisserie showstopper that could win them the title.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s show, Paul revealed how it was the final bake which decided the winner.
He explained: I remember when the last challenge was completed. Prue and I tried it, and I looked at her and we just knew who would win.
“It was a lovely moment and I just thought, ‘We’re tuned in, it’s done’”
But despite an easy final decision, Paul said overall the series has been the “hardest” to judge to date.
As for who won the Great British Bake Off 2017, unsurprisingly Paul wasn’t giving anything away.
He said: “In eight years, it has never been leaked. Everyone has to sign a gagging order not to tell their friends or even their children – so they don’t go to school and tell their classmates.”
Great British Bake Off 2017 airs tonight at 8PM on Channel 4.
