Not Going Out is set to air a live episode for Series 10, it’s been revealed.
Lee Mack’s multi award-winning hit show, and longest running sitcom on air, was back on TV earlier this year for its ninth series.
The BBC has commissioned a tenth run, and it will see a special live show.
A teaser for the upcoming one-off reads “With no room for slip ups or mistakes (no pressure then) we join Lee (Lee Mack) and Lucy (Sally Bretton) live from their festively decorated living room, nervously discussing the Ding Dong Merrily on Live Christmas Spectacular – the Christmas variety show they’ve been strong-armed into organising to raise money for their children’s school.
“But things are rarely plain sailing for our duo, as they soon come to realise, with an animal impersonator as the only confirmed performer, quality acts are worryingly thin on the ground. Who will Lee and Lucy turn to? Surely Toby (Hugh Dennis) and uptight wife Anna (Abigail Cruttenden) can’t be roped in? With raw egg juggling and some knife throwing (CUT!) for good measure… what could possibly go wrong?”
Talking about going live for the first time ever, Lee Mack said, “Live Episode of a BBC One sitcom…what could possibly go wrong? Loads. Which, let’s be honest, is why you sadists will be watching. So don’t miss out on seeing me end my career.”
Not Going Out Live airs on Friday 21st December on BBC One.
In series 9 of Not Going Out, we saw Lee and Lucy living in the anarchy of a packed family house with kids Charlie and twin siblings, Benji and Molly.
As if children weren’t enough to keep the couple crashing from one near-disaster to the next, factor in lovably feckless father, Frank (Bobby Ball), close friends in the form of the world-weary, or more specifically wife-weary, Toby and uptight ice-queen Anna.
At least Lucy’s more dependable parents are on hand, but we know what Geoffrey (Geoffrey Whitehead) and Wendy (Deborah Grant) make of their daughter’s life choices, and more specifically her wisecracking husband.
Not Going Out airs on BBC One.
