Nick Knowles has shared a big I’m A Celebrity behind the scenes secret from last year’s series.
2018 saw eleven brand new celebrities swapped luxury for life in the I’m A Celebrity Jungle.
They were TV presenter Nick Knowles, actor and entertainer John Barrowman MBE, Hollyoaks star Malique Thompson-Dwyer, pop star James McVey, football manager Harry Redknapp, actor Rita Simons, TV’s ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegerty, comedy actor Emily Atack, Corrie star Sair Khan, broadcaster Noel Edmonds and singer Fleur East.
Following the show, Nick has spilled all on how the celebs conspired against the producers.
He claims they even managed to speak off camera, hatching a plan to stick together to make it through the series.
“We decided early on it would be really nice to genuinely try to all get on and not fall out,” he told Ideal Home Show this weekend (via the Daily Mirror).
Although ITV refuted his claims, Nick went on: “The producers were furious with us – honestly they really were. It was us versus the production company. They made it harder and harder.
“For example on the second day, we decided as you can’t talk in camp as there’s 70 cameras there. When the show started we huddled in a place that was hidden by the cameras and decided it was us versus them and if we fall out, they win.”
Nick told how the celebs even created codewords to secretly communicate.
He said: “We decided Octopus was our safe word so if anyone was getting really angry, what you do is go ‘octopus’ and it makes you think, ‘I’m making myself look a bit of an idiot so I better stop’. So we never fell out and no one got angry.
“There was one point when Noel came in and he said to John about scratching his nuts and John stood up about to get angry, and I walked past him and said octopus and he sat straight back down again. The producers couldn’t work it out at all.”
Football manager Harry Redknapp won the final in this year’s results over actress Emily Atack who finished as runner up, and third placed John Barrowman.
I’m A Celebrity will return to ITV for a new series this autumn, hosted again by Ant and Dec.
