Mike Bushell CONFIRMED for Strictly Come Dancing 2019 line up

Mike Bushell has become the latest confirmed contestant on Strictly Come Dancing this year.


Strictly will return to BBC One next month with what will be its 17th series.

Today the BBC has confirmed the sixth celebrity as BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell.

The TV host, who famously fell in a swimming pool live on air, made the announcement during BBC Breakfast today (Friday, August 2).

Mike isn’t the first of BBC’s sports presenting team to compete on Strictly, following in the footsteps of Chris Hollins and Ore Oduba who both won the show.

Mike said: “I am so excited to be joining this year’s Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve heard so many wonderful things from colleagues over the years so thrilled I’m now getting the chance. I know I will completely throw myself into the whole experience and I’m sure will love it from start to finish.

“I may have tried and profiled over 500 sports over the years in my Saturday morning BBC Breakfast slot but think the Strictly challenge could be the greatest. Bring on the glitter!”


He joins the current list of of confirmed names which yesterday saw Catherine Tyldesley and Saffron Barker join the line up.

Catherine is an actress, best known for playing Eva Price on the ITV soap opera Coronation Street from 2011 to 2018.

19-year-old Saffron Barker is a social media star who has over four million followers across her combined social channels and averaging 15 million views a month on her YouTube channels. I

The first trio of celebrities were confirmed on Wednesday night during an appearance on The One Show.

They are England international goalkeeper David James, comedian Chris Ramsey and EastEnders Emma Barton.

The remaining celebrity contestants joining the new series will be announced in due course.

Rumoured Strictly Come Dancing 2019 celebrity contestants include Blue Peter presenter Radzi Chinyanganya, TV legend Anneka Rice, Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin.

Also linked to the show are footballer Alex Scott, plus RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, Olympic rower James Cracknell, model Vogue Williams and football manager Sam Allardyce.


Strictly Come Dancing will start in September on BBC One.

This year’s series will welcome new judge Motsi Mabuse, who takes over from Darcey Bussell on the panel.
