Mamma Mia! for Comic Relief returns with new sketch for Red Nose Day 2019

Mamma Mia! for Comic Relief will return for Red Nose Day in 2019, the BBC has announced.

A new sketch written by Jennifer Saunders will pay tribute to last summer’s box office smash hit Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

It comes ten years on from the original Mamma Mia! for Red Nose Day, which saw us wowed by Jennifer Saunders’ dance moves and Philip Glenister’s vocal prowess.

Mamma Mia Here We Go Yet Again! will see some of the UK’s biggest names in acting and comedy recreating memorable moments from the sequel and even attempting to sing some of Abba’s most iconic songs.

Jennifer Saunders said: “If I could have lived on the fake Mamma Mia set for the last year, I would have been very happy. So I am very, very, very happy to be back.

“This is undoubtedly one of the silliest things I’ve done. But my god I enjoy it so much.”

The sketch will see some familiar faces reprising their roles, with Jennifer Saunders playing Meryl Streep’s Donna, Alan Carr playing Colin Firth’s Harry and Philip Glenister playing Pierce Brosnan’s Sam.

Miranda Hart and Sue Perkins will also be on hand to ensure it all runs smoothly, returning as the producer and director.

The BBC say that more cast names for the special sketch will be revealed in due course.

Mamma Mia Here We Go Yet Again will air exclusively on BBC One during the annual Red Nose Day telethon on Friday 15 March.

Other specials confirmed for this year’s Red Nose Day include a return of The Celebrity Apprentice UK and a second all star Mount Kilimanjaro climb.

The Mamma Mia! for Comic Relief sketch has been written by Jennifer Saunders and Richard Curtis and directed by Ed Bye. Colin Hopkins and Peter Davey are the Executive Producers for BBC Studios. Mel Crawford is the Executive Producer for Comic Relief.
