Louis Tomlinson opens up about his mum’s death in new song

One Direction star Louis Tomlinson has unveiled an emotional new song.

The recent X Factor judge’s brand new solo single Two Of Us is out now, and he says writing the song was therapeutic.

The touching track pays tribute to his late mum, who tragically passed away in 2016 after battling leukaemia.

Opening up about the song, and dealing with the death of his mum, Louis said this week: “I’m not at the stage in my grief where I’m going to open the first verse and burst into tears.

“It was something I needed to get off my chest. I used to lean on my mum for a lot of things – anytime I needed advice on something she would be the first call I made.”

In an interview with BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat, Louis said that writing the song had been “empowering”.

“I don’t want people to get caught up in the sadness of it. The song should be hopeful,” he added.

Louis previously said he hoped sharing the song would help others who are going through similar experiences.

He told House Of Solo magazine. “People say writing is a part of therapy. In a way, I feel like I’d been avoiding writing this song because I knew I only had one chance to get it right.

“I don’t mean to be too soppy but if Two Of Us can help just one other person who’s going through the tough time I went through, that would make me really happy.”

The song is the third to be taken from Louis’ debut album, which is expected to be out later in 2019.

Louis previously told BBC Radio 2 he was still writing songs for the record.

He told Dermot O’Leary’s Saturday breakfast show: “It’s been a long process but I’m a proper perfectionist and I have a few more songs that I need and want to write. It’s more about the type of artist I am.”
