Little Mix lose out on Number 1 album to Michael Buble

First week sales revealed

X Factor winners Little Mix have had to settle for Number 3 in this week’s album charts.

Little Mix – made up of Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards – triumphed on The X Factor in 2011.

They’ve become one of the show’s biggest successes and released their fifth studio album LM5 last Friday.

The album charted at Number 3 in the official Top 40 countdown this evening, with first week sales of 56,840. Michael Buble was Number 1 with sales of 66,794, the Official Charts Company report. Little Mix’s previous album, Glory Days, sold 96,000 copies in its first week to go to Number 1 in 2016.

The group have contributed their own music and lyrics to a number of songs on their new record, including new single Strip.

Jesy told The Sun newspaper ahead of its release: “The best stuff comes from us. You can tell the stuff that’s come from us because of what we write about.

“And that’s the stuff that hits home the most with our fans. It’s real.”

Leigh-Anne added: “I feel we know best. We are young, we know what girls want to listen to.”

Meanwhile, the record is being serviced by new label RCA after it was announced Little Mix would no longer be working with Simon Cowell’s Syco company.

Simon insisted recently there was no ‘falling out’ between himself and the girls, explaining: “Well, I can show you all the correspondence between me and the girls over the years, there’s never been an instance when we’ve fallen out.

“As I said in my email to them, I stand by the fact they are the hardest working bunch of girls I’ve ever worked with. They deserve everything they’ve got.”

Elsewhere, in the single’s chart, Cheryl’s comeback Love Made Me Do It crashed out of the Top 40 after just one week.

Despite a performance on The X Factor, the single slid from its Number 19 debut down to Number 47.
