Stephen Mulhern’s In For A Penny has started filming its first ever series.
Hosted by Stephen Mulhern, star of stage and screen, the new series is based around Saturday Night Takeaway’s current In For a Penny, In For a Grand format.
Stephen fronts the mini-game show and in this year’s series finale of Saturday Night Takeaway, it was revealed the segment was getting its very own series.
In the game, members of the public pay 1p to compete for the chance of winning £1,000. They must answer five random questions all correctly to stay in the game and win the prize money.
Quite how the ‘full version’ of the format will work hasn’t been made clear, but filming has been taking place in cities across the UK.
Stephen tweeted last month: “Right early start for another great day in Newcastle filming ‘In For A Penny’. Get ready, I’m coming your way…”
Other cities where filming has taken place have included Glasgow and Cardiff.
Chatting to The Sun newspaper, Stephen previously revealed he was working with Ant and Dec to turn the idea into its very own show.
“We’re trying to make In For a Penny, In For a Grand its own game show,” he said. “Ant and Dec asked me to do it, which is really exciting. I just knew it was a winner. It’s gone down well.
“We’re hoping to get it off the ground later this year.”
The current host of Britain’s Got Talent spin-off More Talent continued: “We just need some time to work on it. Ideally, we’d make the cash prizes bigger too, just to up the ante.”
Meanwhile, Ant’s estranged wife Lisa Armstrong has been confirmed to be working on the show after leaving Saturday Night Takeaway.
A source told the Daily Mirror: “Lisa has been taking a much-needed break in LA but it’s time to get back to work. She’s been with good friend Stephen Mulhern all week working on In For A Penny.
“Her pals are a little surprised she’s returned to the show given that it’s Ant and Dec’s production company that makes it.”
