I’m A Celebrity 2017 stars face the plank and the Wretched Wreck on their way to camp

Launch challenges also saw two celebs skydive in to a lake

The I’m A Celebrity stars face a 334-foot high plank and a skydive into water as they made their way in to the Australian jungle.

Tonight sees The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2017 contestants also take on the ‘Wretched Wreck’.

As always, the ITV show’s producers put the celebs through a host of tough challenges on their journies to camp.

Before then, they got one last taste of luxury while meeting for the first time at a Gold Coast villa.

Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas was happy to see another familiar soap face in Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine. “Yeah, two fellow northerners,” he smiled.

Meanwhile, Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo wondered whether she’d previously met YouTuber Jack Maynard through their mutual friends.

Soon enough, hosts Ant and Dec gatecrashed the party, and it was down to business for the campers.

For the jam-packed launch episode, bosses brought back the terrifying plank walk, previously completed by the likes of Joel Dommett and Carol Vorderman.

This year, Jack, Jamie, Jennie, Georgia, Amir Khan and Vanessa White had to conquer the terrifying beam, suspended 334 feet above ground from the roof of a hotel.

Georgia and Vanessa struggled to contain their nerves, while Jennie claimed her lack of balance put her off more than the daunting heights.

The traditional I’m A Celebrity skydive also returned, with Dennis Wise and Shappi Khorsandi put up to the task.

However, a new twist meant the duo had to aim for water, rather than solid ground.

After landing in the target lake, they had to swim to a beacon and light a flare.

This left Stanley Johnson and Rebekah Vardy, who were dumped on the ‘Wretched Wreck’.

Their goal was to search ‘hell holes’ along the wooden boat for coloured tokens – which were also occupied by jungle creatures.

“My worst nightmare would be putting my hand in a hole with a spider,” commented Rebekah.

Her fear came true as she encountered the eight-leggered critters, as well as rats, cockroaches and scorpions.

Watch I’m A Celebrity tonight at 9.00pm on ITV to find out if the celebs successfully completed their missions.
