Great British Bake Off hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding takeover the tent

Great British Bake Off hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding takeover the tent on this year’s series.

The pair are each given the opportunity to set a challenge for the bakers in the new season.

Noel gives the contestants the first ever Vegan week while Danish born Sandi gave them a theme based on her home country.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Producers wanted to give Sandi and Noel a bit more input this year and decided to give them some control over the format of the show.

“The filming for Danish week was a lot of fun and Sandi had to do all she could to stop herself from helping the contestants with some of her top tips from back home.”

They added: “It makes for great telly and everyone on the show agrees that it gives the series a new lease of life.”

Alongside Paul and Sandi, Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith will be back as judges for the second series to air on Channel 4.

Noel said that after getting through their first season together things would hopefully make things more relaxed this time.

He explained: “Last year we were under an enormous amount of pressure to not ruin this sacred show that everyone loved, so we weren’t as worried about the bakers, we were just trying to make sure we didn’t destroy our own careers.”

As yet, Channel 4 hasn’t confirmed the 2018 Bake Off start date but the show is expected to begin at the end of August or early September.

The first series to air on Channel 4 last year aired on Tuesday nights at 8PM.

Meanwhile, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice is returning with Jo Brand staying as host.
