Go backstage on Strictly Come Dancing with The Greatest Dancer’s Jordan Banjo

The Greatest Dancer’s Jordan Banjo has been doing some research for his new TV show.

Diversity star Jordan will co-host new BBC One dance talent show The Greatest Dancer alongside Alesha Dixon.

Airing on from Saturday, January 5, the series will feature a host of talent from across the world of dance from ballet to jazz and hip hop to Bollywood as they give the performances of their lives.

They’ll be competing to be named The Greatest Dancer, with a prize including a performance on fellow BBC dance competition Strictly Come Dancing.

And to prepare for the upcoming series, Jordan went backstage at Strictly during its recent live shows.

He was joined by Strictly pro Oti Mabuse, who gave him a tour of the set from the make up and wardrobe departments to Claudia Winkleman’s hangout.

Oti will also be a part of The Greatest Dancer, becoming one of three ‘dance captains’ alongside singer Cheryl and Broadway and Glee star Matthew Morrison.

She said: “I’m looking forward to finding a dancer who can elicit emotion from the audience. I’m looking forward to being able to find amazing new talent and help them unlock their greatest potential.

Speaking ahead of the new show, Cheryl added: “I’m so excited to be part of The Greatest Dancer! I’m looking for acts with real passion, who are going to push boundaries and give it their all.

“From my own dance background, I know the dedication and commitment dancing takes. I can’t wait to get started.”

And Matthew said: “This is such a powerful moment for me. It’s wonderful to continue bringing music and dance into peoples’ lives like we did on Glee. My sincere hope is that I can uplift and encourage all the dancers here reach their greatness.”

The Greatest Dancer will see performers audition in front of a two-day mirror that the audience can see through but the dancers cannot.

If those watching like what they see, they can open the mirror to allow the performer to dance directly for the audience and get through to the next round.

The Greatest Dancer airs Saturday 5th January, 8pm on BBC One.
