Gaynor Faye quitting Emmerdale cast after seven years

Gaynor Faye has announced she is leaving Emmerdale after seven years on the ITV soap.

The actress joined the series in 2012 as Megan Macey and has since made almost 800 appearances.

Speaking to OK! magazine this week, Gaynor said: “It’s a risk. I need to push myself out of my comfort zone. I’ve always been the type of person who doesn’t want to stay playing the same character for too long.

“I’ve been on the show for over six years and have naturally reached a point where I’d like to do some other stuff.”

As for how Megan may be written out of the soap, Gaynor recently hinted her character could end up in prison.

Following Megan’s involvement causing a car crash while texting, Gaynor told DigitalSpy: “If Megan goes to prison, I don’t think it’d be a great place for her. I think she’d definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison.

“But that could be a good thing – it’d be great to play.

“We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show!”

Meanwhile, Megan is also set to find herself embroiled in a bitter custody battle with her ex-husband Jai Sharma over their daughter Eliza.

Gaynor started her career playing Judy Mallett in Coronation Street between 1995 and 1999 and previously competed in Dancing On Ice.

Emmerdale airs on ITV.

Episodes air weeknights at 7PM. You can watch episodes online and catch up on shows from the past month via the ITV Hub.
