Derry Girls 2019 cast and spoilers from series 2 of Channel 4’s comedy

Derry Girls series 2 cast, air date and number of episodes

Derry Girls 2019 begins tonight on Channel 4 but who’s in the cast and what’s it all about?

The girls are back for a second series. And while the first series saw the gang navigate parents, parties, love interests and school against a back drop of The Troubles, series two sees them navigate… parents, parties, love interests and school against the backdrop of a precarious peace process.

All the old faces return including Kevin McAleer as Uncle Colm, as well as a raft of new ones including Ardal O’Hanlon as Eamonn; the awkward, middle-aged mummy’s boy of the Quinn/McCool extended family.

The new second series begins at 9:15PM on Channel 4 on Tuesday, March 5. You can watch episodes online and catch up on All4.

Derry Girls cast

Erin Quinn is played by Saoirse Jackson, Orla McCool is played by Louisa Harland, Clare Devlin is played by Nicola Coughlan, Michelle Mallon is played by Jamie-Lee O’donnell.

They’re joined by James Maguire – played by Dylan Llewellyn, Sister Michael played by Siobhan McSweeney, Ma Mary (Mary Quinn) is played by Tara Lynne O’Neill and Da Gerry (Gerry Quinn) played by Tommy Tiernan.

For series 2, the Derry Girls have a new fella joining the family – celebrated Irish comedian and actor Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) is set to appear in. O’Hanlon will make a special guest appearance as Eamonn; the awkward, middle-aged mummy’s boy of the Quinn/McCool extended family.

In tonight’s first of six episodes, Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) and the rest of the gang are excited to attend an outdoor pursuits weekend which aims to bring Protestant and Catholic school kids together as part of a peace initiative.

But peace is the last thing on Michelle’s (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell) mind once she finds out that there will be Protestant lads there!

Derry Girls airs on Channel 4 tonight at 10PM.

It’s the first of six episodes of the new series.
