Death in Paradise is back for a new series in 2023 – when does it start on TV?


Set on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, the crime drama follows the work of island detectives as they investigate mysterious murders and perplexing puzzles.

Fresh from a one-off Christmas special, Ralf Little reprises his lead role for eight brand new episodes.

The new series of the murder mystery will see Saint Marie’s crack squad of crime solving stars delving into more baffling and brainteasing cases.

When does Death in Paradise start?

Series 12 of Death in Paradise will start on Friday, 6 January 2023 at 9PM on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

A teaser for the first episode shares: “The team investigate the mysterious death of an astronomer after he falls from a cliff during a rare planetary event. Meanwhile, is romance blossoming for Neville?”

The new series will air across eight episodes throughout the New Year.

Other deadly cases featured include a bunch of Preppers digging in for the apocalypse on a Saint Marie hillside, when the end comes dramatically early for one of them. Plus, an impossible killing on a boat takes the team to a beautiful beach under threat.

Also on the main cast for the new series are Don Warrington (Commissioner Selwyn Patterson), Élizabeth Bourgine (Catherine Bordey) Tahj Miles (Officer Marlon Pryce), Shantol Jackson (D.S Naomi Thomas) and Ginny Holder (Darlene Curtis).


Meanwhile guest stars for the new series include Chelsea Edge (I Hate Suzie), Robert Webb (Peep Show), Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Black Sails), Jo Martin (Doctor Who), Christopher Villiers (Top Secret!), Kevin Eldon (Sanditon), Amit Shah (Happy Valley), Jo Hartley (After Life), Barney Walsh (The Larkins), John Michie (Coronation Street), Fiona Button (The Split), Okorie Chukwu (Kate & Koji), Gamba Cole (The Outlaws), Cara Theobald (Downton Abbey) and more.
