Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn has become the latest to quit the ITV soap.
Her exit follows Faye Brookes’ decision to quit yesterday, and makes her the sixth to leave this year.
Katie has played Sinead Tinker on Corrie since 2013 and her decision to leave is said to have left show bosses scrambling for a replacement.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear.
“She’s been central to a number of key storylines this last year or so and will need replacing urgently.”
Yesterday saw Faye announce she would be departing the show later this year.
The actress has been a part of the Coronation Street cast since 2015 as Kate Connor.
She tweeted: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities, I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. #kana #corrie.”
In a statement, ITV said that the door was “left open” for Faye to return in future.
“Faye is a very talented actress who has put her all into the portrayal of Kate Connor for the past three-and-a-half years, we wish her every success for the future,” a spokesperson said.
They added: “She will be on screen until early Autumn and the door will be left open.”
Also set to say their goodbyes to the show this year is Tristan Gemmill, who plays Robert Preston while Connie Hyde, who starred as Sally Webster’s sister Gina Seddon, has already left.
Meanwhile Kym Marsh will be bowing out after 13 years as Michelle Connor.
She said earlier this year: “It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.”
Coronation Street airs on ITV.
