Call The Midwife’s series 8 concludes tonight – who’s on the cast and what can we expect?


Following the Christmas special, a new full series of Call The Midwife is back at 8PM tonight with its eighth and final episode on BBC One.

Acclaimed actress Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, Miriam’s Big American Adventure) starred in the Christmas special and will return tonight for episode one of the new series as Sister Mildred, a forthright and indefatigable sister from the Order.

Meanwhile, joining as new cast members are Fenella Woolgar (Victoria & Abdul, Harlots and War & Peace), who plays Sister Hilda, Ella Bruccoleri (Genius: Picasso, The Last Kingdom) as postulant Sister Frances and Georgie Glen (Waterloo Road, Damned) as Miss Higgins, the surgery’s new receptionist.

The full series eight cast includes; Jenny Agutter (Sister Julienne), Linda Bassett (Nurse Crane), Judy Parfitt (Sister Monica Joan), Helen George (Trixie), Laura Main (Shelagh Turner), Victoria Yeates (Sister Winifred), Jennifer Kirby (Valerie), Leonie Elliott (Lucille), Stephen McGann (Dr Turner), Cliff Parisi (Fred), Annabelle Apsion (Violet), Max Macmillan (Timothy), Trevor Cooper (Sgt Woolf) and Daniel Laurie (Reggie).

In tonight’s eighth and last episode of the new series, Sister Hilda (Fenella Woolgar) digs deep to give her terminally-ill patient Julie Shroeder (Bessie Coates) – who is recovering from radiotherapy for Hodgkin’s Disease – her final wish.


Meanwhile the Turners (Laura Main, Stephen McGann) must prepare to say goodbye to May (April Rae Hoang).

Fred (Cliff Parisi) and Reggie (Daniel Laurie) are keeping secrets from each other. Violet (Annabelle Apsion) is left in the dark about her boys and starts to despair.

It’s Lucille’s (Leonie Elliot) beau Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) who gives Violet (Annabelle Apsion) a plan to get everything out in the open.


Valerie (Jennifer Kirby) and Trixie (Helen George) must testify in a gruelling court case.

Call The Midwife series 8 will air Sunday nights at 8PM on BBC One. Tonight’s episode airs at 8PM, Sunday, March 3.
