Britain’s Got Talent 2018 contestant ‘reveals surprise prison past’

Britain’s Got Talent comedian Robert White has revealed how he ended up in jail after a prank went wrong.

Robert was one of the first acts we met this series when auditions kicked off earlier this year.

The 41-year-old music teacher and comedian from West Sussex performed musical comedy, singing a song about the judges.

He got four yeses through to the next round after leaving the panel in stitches with his gags.

But it seems to be that sometimes Robert takes his jokes a little too far.

He’s opened up about spending time in prison on remand after a prank on his ex was “mistranslated” by police.

“I’d misunderstand things and, one time, that led to a practical joke the police mistranslated as a crime. I got three months in Wandsworth prison,” said Robert, who has autism and Asperger syndrome.

‘Armed’ with a music stand, Robert recalled: “I was going to go into the shop where my ex-boyfriend worked and say, ‘Music stand and deliver’. But I didn’t do it.

Instead he found himself quizzed by police.

“In the police interview, I called it [the music stand] a gun because — for the joke — I was a comedy armed robber,” Robert explained in an interview. “I had originally been going to say Hand over the notes – you know – it was a music stand – Hand over the notes – but then I decided I was going to say Music stand and deliver.”

Speaking to The Sun at the weekend, Robert branded the incident a “foolish mistake”, saying: “I was only 19, hadn’t yet been diagnosed with Asperger’s and had some growing up to do.”

Other acts through to the live shows this year included circus performer Sascha Williams who performed a Rola Bola acrobatic act.

We also met NHS Blood and Transplant’s B-Positive Choir which sang Andra Day’s Rise Up’ and DVJ aka Diversity Junior, a dance group guided by Diversity’s Ashley Banjo.

Plus, there was Matt Johnson, who performed an escapology trick, locked and chained inside a tank filled with water.

Britain’s Got Talent 2018 airs live all this week at 7:30PM on ITV.
