ZeroZeroZero: First look at new drama series as it launches son Sky Atlantic and NOW TV

Sky has unveiled the start date and first look at its new original series ZeroZeroZero.

Directed by Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah) and based on Roberto Saviano’s book “ZEROZEROZERO”, the first trailer unveils a mammoth crime frenzy of international drug trafficking.

The show will air exclusively on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK from Thursday, 4 February 2021 at 9PM.

ZeroZeroZero features an international cast including Andrea Riseborough (The Death of Stalin, Battle of the Sexes), Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spiderman 2, In Treatment), Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment, The Usual Suspects), Harold Torres (González, Sin Nombre, Northless), Giuseppe De Domenico (Euphoria), Adriano Chiaramida (Romanzo Criminale – La Serie), Francesco Colella (Made in Italy, Piuma) and Tcheky Karyo (Nikita, A Gang Story).

Sky tease of the upcoming series: “ZeroZeroZero looks at different criminal and family groups that are equally violent and power hungry. It shows how the Mexican cartels, the Calabrian ‘Ndrangheta and corrupt American businessmen all compete for supremacy over the trade routes of the world’s most distributed drug, cocaine.

ZeroZeroZero was filmed across three continents (North America, Europe and Africa), in six languages (English, Spanish, Italian, French, Wolof and Arabic) and took almost a year to film.

To mark the launch of the show, NOW TV and artist Nathan Wyburn unveiled a supersized map of the world comprised of 161kg of triple zero (000) flour.

The artwork takes inspiration from the book’s tagline – “Look at cocaine and all you see is powder. Look through cocaine and you see the world” and highlights four peaks representing the European cities with the highest consumption rates (London, Barcelona, Berlin, and Amsterdam).

Installed in Greenwich overlooking the City, Nathan crafted the map over a week, after months of preparation, using 161kg of the class A drug’s moniker, 000 flour. This is the gram for gram equivalent of cocaine consumed in London every week – and worth upwards of £6,400,000 in street value.

Commenting on the installation author Roberto Saviano said: “There is a river that flows under the big cities, a white river that originates in South America, which crosses Africa and branches out everywhere. Men and women, heads down, walk along the London boulevards… under their feet flows that white river, it flows impetuously.”

Artist Nathan Wyburn added: “I’ve worked with all manner of unique ideas and mediums over the years. This intricate piece for NOW TV has been incredibly interesting to design but it’s also harrowing to see such shocking statistics piled high in flour form.”
