Will Bayley speaks out after leaving Strictly Come Dancing due to injury

Will Bayley is “gutted” after an injury forced him to quit Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

The Paralympian missed last weekend’s live show after a fall in training caused a knee injury.

He was originally given a bye through to this weekend’s episode but ahead of tonight’s live show, the BBC confirmed Will had been forced to withdraw from the series.

In a statement, Will said: “I’m gutted my Strictly journey has had to come to an end. I’ve loved being part of the show, and am so grateful for the phenomenal support we have received.

“I want to say a special thank you to Janette for believing in me, and giving me the confidence to believe in myself.

“The things we achieved, from our couple’s choice dance, through to the lifts in our salsa, will stay with me forever. I’ve had the time of my life.”

He’s also taken to Instagram to thank fans, saying: “It’s been really hard but I’m trying to be positive, looking forward to things. I’m going to focus on Tokyo 2020 to win another gold medal. It was such an amazing journey Strictly, I loved every single second of it.”

Will added: “Thanks so much for all the amazing support I’ve had the past few days online and out in the streets it’s been incredible. Who knows I might one day get that Glitter ball trophy ??? #thankful”

Will’s pro partner Janette Manrara added on social media: “@willbayleytt will always be my champion! He came on this show to share a very special message & every single week through his hard work & determination he did exactly that. In my eyes, that is truly winning!

“You inspired so many & most of all me! Thank you for being so incredible every week & giving your absolute EVERYTHING! I’m sending all the positive energy your way now for a speedy recovery. And a HUGE thank you to everyone that has supported us & sent such lovely messages! I love you Will, & forever and always….. ”

It’s since been confirmed that Will will NOT be replaced on the line up, leaving three celebs in the final this year.

Meanwhile, it’s also been announced that this Saturday night will see Alex Scott dance with Kevin Clifton once again with usual pro partner Neil Jones still out injured.

Another celebrity couple will be eliminated in this week’s latest results show.

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sunday nights on BBC One.
