Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin ‘signs up for Strictly Come Dancing 2019’

Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin has become the latest name linked to Strictly Come Dancing 2019.

The broadcaster is best known for his weekend shows on Radio 1.

But he could soon be stepping out from behind the mic stand to take to the dancefloor, if rumours are to be believed.

According to The Sun newspaper, Strictly bosses hope to sign Dev to attract a “youthful radio audience” like last year’s contestant Vick Hope.

“No one had really heard of her before Strictly last year and they seemed to warm to her,” a source said of Dev’s fellow radio presenter, “They’re hoping Dev’s personality will make him a household name.”

Other celebrities who could be on the Strictly Come Dancing line up this year include footballer Alex Scott.

Currently appearing as a pundit for the BBC at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the former Lioness has represented the England woman’s team as well as Team GB at the Olympics

Alex previously revealed she was hoping for a spot on Strictly Come Dancing following her appearance on ITV’s Mission Survive.

She won the Bear Grylls survival show in 2016 and admitted she hoped Strictly could be her next challenge.

Speaking at the time, Alex teased: “Growing up, I always loved Strictly Come Dancing so if that one came knocking, I would definitely grab that with both hands.”

Meanwhile, other recently rumoured Strictly Come Dancing contestants include Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley, Olympic rower James Cracknell, Drag Race star Michelle Visage, Happy Mondays performer Bez, model Vogue Williams, former England manager Sam Allardyce and Blue Peter’s Radzi Chinyanganya.

But one person we likely won’t be seeing on the show is Steps star Claire Richards.

She says watching bandmate Faye Tozer take part last year as put her off.

“Watching Faye do it and seeing how hard you have to work, I don’t know if it’s for me,” Claire told The Sun. “I hate learning dance routines with a passion, I find it excruciating.

“The pros are quite tough on their partners, which they have to be, but I don’t respond very well to that. I would go the other way and not want to try hard.”

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing launches in autumn.

2019 will welcome a new judge alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and head judge Shirley Ballas after Darcey Bussell made the shock announcement she was quitting.
