Nick Knowles has shot to the top of the iTunes chart after revealing all about his music career on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! – even name-dropping Biffy Clyro and the Gallagher brothers.
Last night’s episode of the ITV show featured Snake Rock campmates Fleur East and The Vamps star James McVey discussing their paths in to the music industry.
What they didn’t know was that in rival camp Croc Creek, a far more unlikely artist was doing the same.
Nick told the other celebs about how he suddenly went from presenting BBC television to making his own album.
“A couple of years ago, somebody heard me playing. I was on top of a rooftop bar in Soho with some other famous people from bands,” he said.
“Somebody from a record company saw me doing it. Then I got a phone call saying, ‘I’m from Universal. Do you wanna do an album?’
“Some people really liked it, but some people really stuck in to it. All the stand-up comedians properly stuck in to it!”
The highlight of the story was Nick’s epic name-dropping in the Bush Telegraph.
He told the private confessional that the band he’d jammed with was none other than Biffy Clyro.
“Probably best not to say who they are because it’ll be embarrassing for them more than anything else,” he smirked.
“Actually, they’ll be alright, they won’t mind, they’re nice lads, so it was Biffy Clyro!”
The DIY SOS frontman even recalled how his work attracted the ire of Oasis’ legendary Gallagher brothers.
“One of the Gallagher brothers slagged me off on one of the chat shows. That was probably about as famous as I got from music,” he laughed.
Nick’s debut album, named Every Kind of People, was released in November last year – at a time when fellow daytime TV stars Alexander Armstrong and Bradley Walsh were enjoying music success.
It was Noel Gallagher who have his two pence on Alan Carr: Chatty Man, suggesting Nick sounds like he’s “having a stroke” when he’s singing.
At the time, the record flopped, only just scraping in to the Top 100 at number 96.
However, Nick is now enjoying an unlikely resurgence after entertaining 10million I’m A Celebrity viewers last night with his amusing tales.
His cover of Bob Dylan classic Make You Feel My Love has shot to the number one spot on the iTunes singles chart overnight.
That means he is currently outselling superstars such as Pink, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora and Ariana Grande.
Nick also caused a stir on social media, with Biffy Clyro trending on Twitter last night.
The Scottish rockers themselves got in on the fun by tweeting the hashtag #BiffyClyroNotEmbarrassedTheyJammedWithNickKnowles, which host Dec Donnelly jokingly encouraged viewers to use.
We’ll find out if Nick’s sudden success impacts the Official Charts when the latest stats are released on Friday.
I’m A Celebrity airs nightly at 9.00pm on ITV, followed by Extra Camp on ITV2.
