Ghosts Christmas special 2023 release date and trailer
The final episode of Ghosts comes to BBC One this month with a Christmas special.
Earlier this year it was announced the the upcoming fifth series of Ghosts would be its last.
However the show’s creators have now revealed fans will get one final chance to say goodbye to their favourite characters with a one-off festive special in December.
When is the Ghosts Christmas special on TV?
The 2023 Ghosts Christmas special will air on Christmas Day (Monday, 25 December) at 7:45PM on BBC One.
It will also be released to watch online on BBC iPlayer.

Ghosts spoilers
In the Christmas special, the festive season is fast approaching and Mike’s mother, Betty, comes to stay at Button House. Despite her well-intentioned efforts to help, Mike and Alison find themselves increasingly frustrated by her meddling ways. The situation grows more challenging as they struggle to find a delicate way to suggest she return home, especially with the house feeling more crowded than ever due to the presence of the Ghosts.
Meanwhile, Robin, now enamored with the holiday season, finds himself lacking that quintessential Christmas cheer. In an attempt to lift his spirits, the Ghosts eagerly share their tips and tricks for getting into the holiday mood. However, even an abundance of decorations and festive tunes seems insufficient to rekindle Robin’s Christmas spirit, leaving the Ghosts puzzled about how to help him recapture the magic of the season.
Just when Betty decides to leave Button House, prompting quiet relief from Mike and Alison, she senses something amiss. Convinced that the house is in danger, she makes a sudden decision to stay until she’s certain her family is safe, going to great lengths in her protective efforts. This leads a desperate Mike and Alison to enlist the help of the Ghosts in a covert ‘Operation Bye Bye Betty’.
The whole experience inspires the Ghosts to reflect, and a big decision awaits them all.
Who’s on the cast?
Ghosts stars writers and creators Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond alongside Lolly Adefope, Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe.
Discussing the decision to end the show, Charlotte Ritchie said earlier last month: “I think the writers are really smart. They knew that it was the right choice. I think we just were just getting to the point where everyone was very comfy in their parts, and it was just the right point to finish.
“A lot of the feedback I’ve got from people has been that they think it’s cool to quit while you’re ahead.”
