Kate & Koji 2022 start date confirmed

Kate & Koji returns to ITV for a second series in 2022 – here’s all you need to know.

Sitcom Kate & Koji centres around a working-class woman who runs an old-fashioned café in a seaside town and who develops a strong, if sometimes volatile, friendship with an asylum-seeking African doctor.

The first outing of the ITV comedy in 2020 proved a huge hit with viewers and now a follow up is on its way.

Series 2 of Kate & Koji start on Wednesday, 16 March 2022 at 9PM on ITV and ITV Hub.

The new series will see Brenda Blethyn return as Kate while Okorie Chukwu will take over the role of Koji from Jimmy Akingbola, who is currently filming a re-boot of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in the US.

Blake Harrison and Barbara Flynn will return in their roles as ‘Medium’ and Councillor Bone with Victor McGuire as Mr Mullholland.

Guest stars in the new series include Susie Blake, Chizzy Akudolu and Claire Skinner.

A synopsis of the first episode shares: “At the start of series 2, Kate and Medium are going to be rewarded for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic with a local award, but Kate discovers Councillor Bone is going to present it and refuses to collect it.

“Medium is hugely disappointed, but Kate eventually relents and its Councillor Bone whose nose is put out of joint when she has to praise Kate live on TV.”

Brenda Blethyn said: “I’m so pleased Kate will be welcoming her customers back into the caff. Even the postman! I’ve missed them. So looking forward to donning the gingham apron and welcoming Okorie to our Kate and Koji family.”

Okorie Chukwu added: “I’m excited to step into the role of Koji and I can’t wait to get working with this brilliant cast of actors.”

Writers and creators Guy Jenkin & Andy Hamilton commented: “We were disappointed to have to postpone the second series because of the big Covid spike in January 2021, but now we’re looking forward to getting back into Kate’s seaside café with our superb cast, performing in front of a live studio audience.”

ITV’s Head of Scripted Comedy, Nana Hughes said: “We are all very excited that Okorie has joined the show as Koji.

“Guy and Andy have as usual written incredibly funny scripts which Brenda and the gang will bring to life brilliantly. The audience is in for a real treat.”

A teaser reveals: “Although from very different worlds, Kate and Koji are similar in so many ways, including a dogged determination to never back down!

“When the fur flies, it’s always up to Kate’s resourceful nephew ‘Medium’ to act as peacemaker.”

For now the first series of Kate & Koji is available online via BritBox.
