Love Island bosses have spoken out after claims that the ITV2 series is ‘fake’.
Show producers have responded to claims made by former contestant Tyla Carr.
Tyla, who appeared on last year’s series, has accused the show of ‘prompting’ contestants to discuss certain topics and reshooting scenes.
“They tell you what they want you to talk about, and who with,” she told the Daily Star on Sunday newspaper.
Tyla explained: “You have to tell the producers on site if you are planning to have an important chat or do something, so they make sure the microphones pick it up and the cameras get it.”
But she added: “They don’t make you do anything that’s not happened or tell you to do anything you don’t want to do.
“But they would prompt you. They may suggest it would be a good idea if you brought something up or discussed something.
“Basically, if you’ve had three separate conversations with someone they may ask you to have the conversation again all in one go to make it better viewing.”
A spokesperson for ITV said in a statement in response to Tyla’s comments: “It is absolutely untrue to suggest that Love Island is fake. The opinions they have and the relationships formed are completely within the control of the Islanders themselves.”
They added: “As we have said since series one, Love Island is a combination of reality and produced elements. Any produced elements are designed to allow viewers to understand what the Islanders are feeling and to help move narrative threads on.”
Reacting to the article on Twitter, fans of the show had a lot to say.
One viewer quipped: “Tyla from 2017 Love Island is saying that they had to reshoot various scenes…. babe, I think we knew that drama was created by the producers, whether it be staged or not. It’s entertainment, of course it is; or they wouldn’t have got Jacks ex in there. #LoveIsland #TylaCarr”
Love Island 2018 continues nightly on ITV2 at 9PM.
